The Nature Trail was established in 1974 w/ the purchase of 34 acres
of land on the west side of the Shenango River. A nature
interpretive area was fashioned form the land, and an outdoor
education program was proposed to the Greenville Area School
District. In January of 1976 the footbridge that connects Riverside
Park with the Nature trails that spans the Shenango River was built,
along with construction of the Nature Center in March of 1976. The
footbridge saw a massive overhaul by Boy Scout Troop #92 in 2005.
The 7-8 grade boy scouts dismantled the bridge down to its steel
I-beams and completely rebuilt the bridge. The scouts raised $1500
from Country Fair, GALSA raised $1500 in local donations, and wood
was donated from an out-of-town lumber yard. All labor was
volunteer. |
